“I am not what happened to me. I am what I choose to become.” ― C.G. Jung

Counselling and psychotherapy can help you find ways to manage problems and crises in your life. It can help you come to terms with issues from your past that are still burdening you in the present. And it can give you a stronger sense of who you really are.

You may be seeking counselling because you’re experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, loneliness or anger. You may be having relationship issues, experiencing a huge loss, feeling overwhelmed and finding it hard to cope, or because you’re looking to find answers to some big questions in your life.

ANXIETY: You may feel overwhelmed because of job stress, juggling the demands of home and work, or the pressure to be ‘on’ 24/7′. This can all lead to low self-esteem and reliance on substances or behaviours to help survive stressful times – and it can tap into perfectionist and workaholic tendencies that only add to feelings of overwhelm. Therapy can help you identify coping strategies as well as working through underlying issues – often from childhood – that compound your feelings of anxiety.

RELATIONSHIPS: You may be at your wit’s end or tying yourself up in knots trying to please other people – and feel yourself failing. You may be asking yourself what you’ve done wrong, wonder how and why you’re on your own, or why you find yourself in such conflict with those supposed to be closest to you. You may be considering your options for the future.

LOSS comes in many guises. You may be coming to terms with life after a major bereavement, through losing a loved one to dementia, or suffering a miscarriage. You may be renegotiating your place in life after redundancy or divorce, or finding your way through a midlife crisis or the menopause. Therapy can support you through your losses and find ways to face the future.

MEANING: The modern world can stifle or eclipse the real you. We get so caught up in chasing the day-to-day stuff that we can lose sight of what, who and where we really want to be. What gives you purpose and puts a spring in your step? When was the last time you felt truly, freely happy? If you feel you’re losing sight of your purpose in life, then psychotherapy can help you re-discover what gives your life meaning.

Talking to a therapist can help you:

  • Find ways to cope with anxiety and depression
  • Deal with work stress that may be affecting your home life too
  • Reconnect and find intimacy in a relationship that hasn’t been working
  • Come to terms with a sad, difficult or abusive childhood
  • Express feelings that have been hidden for some time
  • Release blocks to your true self
  • Identify and connect with qualities and resources within yourself
  • Connect with your creativity
  • Find the ability to forgive and let go
  • Manifest your true meaning and purpose in life
  • Be truly authentic for the first time
